An Arizona businessman with Fairbanks ties has registered the name “Golden Heart Strong,” the same name as a borough ballot proposition advocacy group. Mathew Lebeau used the status to get Facebook to take down a “Golden Heart Strong” page advocating for the borough tax cap increase.

Two houses in Delta Junction were heavily damaged by fire Monday. Both structures were unoccupied, and no one was injured. The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of one of the fires, which sparked rumors locally about a serial arsonist.

Just after midnight this morning, the Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board voted to close Ben Eielson Junior/Senior High School. They postponed voting on the closure of other schools to instead focus on the budget. The board resumes meeting tonight.

A new animal shelter for the Fairbanks North Star Borough is being worked through funding and design step and is scheduled for construction in 2025.
